MASTER GARDENERS
of St. Clair County
Tuesday, Feb 17 | 6:30 PM
Join us for a fascinating presentation by Joe Torino, owner of National Sequoias. Based locally in Kimball Township, Joe is a specialist in cultivating one of the world's most iconic tree species right here in the Great Lakes region.
Joe’s nursery is a true local marvel, housing over 8,000 Giant Sequoia seedlings grown from seeds environmentally harvested in California. While these giants are famous for their West Coast roots, Joe is proving they can thrive in Michigan. In fact, Northwest Lower Michigan is already home to a "Michigan Champion" sequoia that stands over 100 feet tall—a testament to the species' surprising adaptability to our climate.
Joe will share his expertise on:
Why our climate is suitable for these ancient marvels.
How these trees can grow up to 2 feet per year once established.
The incredible carbon-capture potential of a single sequoia.
Whether you're looking to plant a "legacy tree" or are simply curious about local horticulture, you won't want to miss this inspiring session.
